Millenial Generation in the Eyes of its Constituent

Millenial Generation in the Eyes of its Constituent

Smartphones, laptops, iPads, Google Search and social media-- it is technology that defines the youth of today. Its irony lies in the observation that in an age where almost all activities are digitized and information are accessed freely by anyone over the internet, boredom is a common denominator of the littlest dilemmas the millenials face.

The technological world provides billions of avenues for learning and entertainment to this generation, and yet its function is not well utilized by the youth. The millenials, who are online 24/7 and enjoy the privilege of getting news of vital importance at their fingertips, know little about the current situation of the world. Communication has been made easier with the birth of instant messaging, and yet the quality of company with friends and family have gone from joyful to boring, akin to romantic versus platonic love-- in which its value is not anymore shown through actions of gratitude, rather through posts limited to 140 characters. These young minds, who have every bit of information and entertainment to empower them as individuals, complain of being bored or having nothing to do simply because they see technology as something normal in their time, which is why they do not find any wonder in it anymore compared to the people born before the 90s who were raised less exposed to the world of technology.

I see this generation like a spoiled brat-- one that takes things for granted simply because everything has been given, not earned. And I think it is not technology to be blamed, rather the millenials themselves for treating technology as a fake representation of a generation that is moving forward.
