The Bored Generation

As I read through the works of my peers and classmates about what they did over the break, I observe the common theme that becomes true for most, if not all. Boredom. Despite the non-conforming few, I got my general snapshot of what the generation of the youth is today, and the youth today is bored.

With no offense at all, it was just honestly draggy to read most of the papers. Maybe it could just be my lazy conscious not paying attention to the content which I am sure at least some of it was excellent. But clearly, I just wanted the requirement to be done, and I didn’t take the time to appreciate.

But really, how entertained and focused can I keep myself to be if what people wrote about was how utterly bored they were over the break? Clearly, if you were bored over the break, I’d get bored reading about it, even more so. Again, no, I don’t mean to attack the writing of people, if ever anyone is offended. This is just where my snapshot of the generation comes in.

To me, the generation today let itself be consumed by the desire of something or someone to enter their life and save them from boredom. The great irony strikes where in we see that the power to change that is at each person’s hand, yet each hand just sticks on a laptop or a smart phone hopelessly clicking and swiping away on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram trying to fill the void. If there’s anything I could say to the generation today is to put your hands into good use and close that laptop and switch those smart phones off. Go outside and find the real answer to your desires, because you’re not gonna find it in your news feed or timeline. You’re gonna find it out there where the real world is. Meet people, try new things, face your fears. Life was made all too extraordinary, to find it too boring.
